Druglord: Rangoon does not need peace

Denies Tachilek blasts and dispatching Thai PM

Politics

Wei Hsuehkang, a Wa chieftain wanted both in Thailand and the United States, was reported to have commented recently that peace was the last thing on the minds of the military authorities in Rangoon, according to a source close to him.

"If there were peace, there wouldn't have been any excuse for the generals to hang on to power anymore," the 57-year old de facto commander of the Wa forces facing Thailand's Third Army that has been assigned to protect the kingdom's northern borders said. "They'll be pressured to talk to the opposition and eventually hand over the reins of the government to Aung San Suu Kyi."

Responding to Thai charges that Wa were behind the bombblasts in Tachilek on 21 May that killed 4 and shattered the statue of King Bayintnaung "the conqueror of Thailand" who flourished in the 16th century, Wei was quoted as saying, "That's a joke. If and when we decide to destroy, it'll be against the living persons of the generals, not against liveless figures."

"People should know it's the generals who will benefit the most from the resulting instability," he argued.

Wei, dubbed by a Shan commander as the remote control of the Wa, also dismissed allegations Wa were launching an operation to assassinate Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. "They are only accusing us because they know no trustworthy people are going to speak on our behalf," he remarked. "But, behind all the public statements, they must surely know it's their own people who are really behind the assassination attempts."

Wei Hsuehkang, who has several homes, is presently in Monghsat, according to the source. His day-to-day affairs in the 171st "Military Region" commanding 11 battalions are managed by his younger brother, Wei Hsuehying.

Joke section:
What SPDC stands for

U Shan Sah is the Burmese cartoon version of Sherlock Holmes and

U Dein Daung is his pardner.

U Dein Daung:
Recently, there were some terrorist bombs exploding in Tachileik and one of them destroyed the statue of Bayinaung. SPDC accused SSA of doing this deed, but who do you think is really responsible?

U Shan Sah:
[puffing on his pipe] ......ummm, Tachileik is swarming with SPDC troops and whoever tries to carry out a sabotage mission is truly foolish. And to destroy the statue of Bayinaung instead of a real military target is even more stupid. So I think it is a really big Sauk Paw [damned fool] who did it, not the SSA.

U Dein Daung:
Well, then, how about that bomb exploding in a movie theater in Phyu Town, killing and wounding a lot of people? SPDC accused KNU of doing it.

U Shan Sah:
[blowing out some smoke].....Phyu Town is swarming with SPDC agents and their people and yet a terrorist was able to set off a bomb and kill innocent Burmese people. Hmmm.... Whoever did it had to be a Dazaukann [blind-sighted, reckless] Criminal, not the KNU!

U Dein Daung:
So that's it then: the terrorists who exploded the bombs were Sauk Paw Dazaukann Criminals ?

U Shan Sah:
Yes, of course! It HAS to be the Sauk Paw Dazaukann Criminals! Who else could be that stupid and foolish?
