A Shan human rights group was formed
near the Thai border across from Maehongson today.
It was led by Khun Kya Oo a.k.a Tai Oohurng, 67. He was the eldest
son of Khun Kya Bu, one of the signatories of the historic Panglong
Agreement in 1947. He died in 1997.
One of his publications, the Shan Case, is available in 4 languages: English, Chinese, Shan and Thai. "The English version is in low stock and needs to be printed again", said Kham Harnfah, the Foundation's secretary.
The SHRF has been publishing monthly reports on human rights situation in the Shan State since the beginning of 1997. "Dispossessed", a report on the forced relocations program launched by the Burma Army in central Shan State since 1996, is known to be most quoted booklet.
