While recognizing the importance of migrant labor to economic growth, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is more concerned with regulating their mobility than addressing inhumane and restrictive national control of cross-border populations, concludes a recently published paper by Shan scholar Sai S.W. Latt.
On 15 and 16 April, during the Myanmar New Year celebrations, a fierce battle broke out between Burma army and Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) at Loi Zay, Tangyan Township, northern Shan State, said local news sources.

It is reported that the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) and a Shan youth association have joined hands collecting funds and other utilities to support the refugees, who have fled and taken shelters in the temples in Tangyan, Shan State, due to the recent clashes between Shan rebels and Burma army, according to the local news sources from northern Shan State.
On 5 April, citing health, safety and security concerns for the locals, the northern Shan Farmer Committee has filed a petition to the chief minister of the government of Shan State to stop the Shwe gas pipeline project which is expected to be in operation soon.
Drugs seized recently were burned by the Restoration Council of Shan State / Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) on Sunday, 7 April, on the Sino-Burmese border township of Namkham, according to the SSA South, as the RCSS/SSA is commonly known.
It is reported that due to recent clashes between, Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) and Burma army in the Loi Zay region, Tangyan Township in northern Shan State, thousands local people in the region are fleeing to the township seat.
Fact sheets and a press release prepared by the coalition of Shan community based organizations were delivered to the Chinese consulate in Chiangmai by Thai police officers, after Chinese officials failed to show up at the gate today.
The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) has formed a working committee to forge unification with other Shan parties in Tachilek since January 2013. Nevertheless, it has not been active according to a parliamentary member from SNDP.
